More than 18,928,000 people took part in the presidential elections yesterday, the head of Uzbekistan's Central Electoral Commission Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said. The voter turnout amounted to 91.01% of registered voters.
According to the head of the CEC, no irregularities have been reported by local polling stations.
Counting of the ballots has already started at the polling stations. The first preliminary results of the election will be announced on March 30, Trend reports.
The chairman of the Russian Central Electoral Commission Vladimir Churov stressed that the organisation of these elections was at the highest level. "We did not noticed any pressure on voters, all of them voted freely and according to their own ideas about who the country needed as the presidential authority," RIA Novosti cited him.
"The turnout is high and the polling stations are equipped very well, as always," the head of the Central Electoral Commission said.
At the same time, there were some shortcomings, but they were not significant. "As Dmitry Medvedev said once, sterile elections never happen. There are some comments on the organization of the voting, which will be discussed later in a professional manner with our colleagues," Churov said, noting that the Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan took into account the comments which were made after the December parliamentary elections and as a result have improved the environment of the polls.
"My main assessment is that the elections were held, the elections were held freely and without external interference," the head of the Central Electoral Commission of the Russian Federation concluded.
The presidential candidates are: incumbent President Islam Karimov from the Liberal Democratic Party, Akmal Saidov from the National Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish; the chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU), Hotamzhon Ketmonov; the chairman of the executive committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adolat, Narimon Umarov.
