Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Wednesday morning, Trend reports, citing the Iranian TV channel PressTV.
Ahmadinejad was invited by his Lebanese counterpart Saad Al-Hariri and Parliamentary Speaker Nabikh Berri.
Ahmadinejad will visit the south Lebanese villages of Kann and Bint Zhbeyl, which are on the border with Israel. Both the USA and Israel have expressed discontent.
Bint Zhbeyl was the center of a military conflict between Lebanese Hezbollah party and Israeli forces during the second Lebanese war in July 2006. The south of Lebanon is currently controlled by the peacekeeping forces of UNIFIL, together with Lebanese army. Israel and USA believe that the village is used by Hezbollah to store weapons coming from Tehran and Damascus.
Ahmadinejad and the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah are expected to attend a meeting in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
