Tehran and Beirut have signed 17 cooperation agreements in energy, construction, science, hi-tech, agriculture, healthcare, Trend reports, citing IRNA.
The documents were signed by the Iranian and Lebanese presidents, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Michel Suleiman.
The Iranian president is currently on a three-day visit to Lebanon. Ahmadinejad will visit the south Lebanese villages of Kann and Bint Zhbeyl, which are on the border with Israel. Both the USA and Israel have expressed discontent.
Bint Zhbeyl was the center of a military conflict between Lebanese Hezbollah party and Israeli forces during the second Lebanese war in July 2006. The south of Lebanon is currently controlled by the peacekeeping forces of UNIFIL, together with Lebanese army. Israel and USA believe that the village is used by Hezbollah to store weapons coming from Tehran and Damascus.
Ahmadinejad and the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah are expected to attend a meeting in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
