Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has been promoted the Dagestani Minister of Interior Affairs Abdurashid Magomedov to major general, RIA Novosti reports, citing the president’s statement of October 11.
Magomedov was appointed minister in early August. He was the deputy minister and the head of the investigation services of the republic. He replaced the former Minister of Interior Affairs, Major General Ali Magomedov.
The president’s decision was preceded by a social-economic council in Sochi for Dagestani development issues. At the council, Magomedsalam Magomedov asked Medvedev to increase support for the polcie due to an increase in terrorist activity.
In late September the presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) Alexander Khloponin expressed hope that Magomedov’s appointment will improve the situation.
A series of terrorist attacks have occurred recently in the republic. A car filled with explosives crashed into a military bas near Buynaksk on September 5, killing three servicemen and injuring 35.
