President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the opening of a training center in Istanbul that the country is ready to cooperate with Armenia if Yerevan will take "positive" steps with regard tothe far-fetched claims about so-called "genocide", as well as the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh from occupation.
"Our doors are still open for Armenia, if it will take "positive" steps against spurious claims about the Armenian "genocide", as well as the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh from occupation," Erdogan said.
He also criticized the words of Pope Francis and the European Parliament resolution on the "Armenian genocide", and then appealed to the international community and, in particular, to Armenia: "The politicization of this issue is harmful mostly for Armenians. We are well aware that the protection of rights of Armenians is not the true goal of those who make such decisions. Can those who are not related to Armenians make such claims?" Trend quoted the head of state.
According to him, the statements of some political circles in Europe have no meaning for Turkey. "Stop these futile efforts. The European Parliament calls to open the archives. Our archives are open. We have been saying this for 10-15 years. If Armenia has such archives, open them. If other countries have archives, open them, too. Give us documents, we will create a joint commission to objectively and comprehensively consider and give the required assessment," Erdogan stressed.
