White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that the US government will pay compensation to the families of the two hostages who were killed during the US raid against al-Qaeda, held in January 2015 on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"Compensation will be provided to both families," he said, adding that the final details had yet to be agreed. According to the spokesman, US intelligence agencies concluded "just a few days ago" with a high degree of confidence that the hostages – citizens of the United States and Italy – were killed in the January drone attack.
Today the head of the US administration, speaking at the White House, apologized for the deaths of innocent people during the counterterrorist operation on the Afghan-Pakistani border and drew attention to the fact that as the head of state and commander-in-chief he takes full responsibility for this tragic event, TASS reports.
