Sanctions against Russia no reason for anxiety, Putin says

Sanctions against Russia are not a reason for anxiety: the policy of deterrence against Russia has been applied before, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his interview for the "President" film on the Russia 1 TV channel.

"Sanctions are just an attempt to deter the development of Russia, and such attempts we can see throughout all Russian history, dating back to imperial times," Putin said. "This attempt to deter Russia, this policy has been known for centuries. There is nothing new and we should not worry about this, especially in this situation,’’ TASS cites Putin.

"The so-called ruling circles, political and economic elites of these countries love us when we are poor, poor and standing with outstretched hands," Putin said. "As soon as we begin to declare our interests, they feel an element of geopolitical rivalry, well. Does anyone like this?" the president asked.

"I am deeply convinced that we do not violate any rules of the game," the president said, explaining that he first of all means international law and the UN Charter."

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a live interview said that the West should have a respectful attitude towards Russia if it wants to restore relations with the country and also added that Russia will never be a vassal.

The Russian President said that his country will do its best to protect its interests. As for the situation with the return of the Crimea to Russia, Putin said that everything had been done correctly, and there is nothing to regret.

"I told them that people’s fortunes are an extremely important issue for us. I do not know which interests you will protect, but we are defending our ones. And that's a very important thing," RIA Novosti cites Putin.
