The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) observer mission headquarters have started work in Azerbaijan and will monitor the parliamentary elections on November 7.
The headquarters chief, head of the election department of the CIS Executive Committee, Yevgeniy Sloboda, told APA that the headquarters have 6 long-term observers. One of them is the Deputy Executive Secretary of the CIS, Vladimir Garkun, who arrived yesterday and will stay until October 24.
Sloboda said that they will have meetings with Azerbaijani officials, the Central Electoral Committee, district electoral commissions, candidates, electoral blocks and political parties, and that they will compose letters to the General Prosecutors office, the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Interior Affairs with a request to present complaints about the elections.
The long-term observers will stay in Azerbaijan until the end of the elections.
The election day will have approximately 350 observers overseeing it. The mission is headed by the CIS Executive Secretary, Sergey Lebedev.
