United States commemorates soldiers and officers of Great Patriotic War

The United States joined the 'Immortal regiment' rally in memory of the soldiers and officers of the Great Patriotic War for the first time. All people who came were holding placards with photographs of their relatives who took part in the fighting or working in the rear in 1941-1945.

 

According to the Russian Youth of America Society, which is the organizer of the action, anyone, regardless of nationality or political opinion, can join the action. The head of the Russian Youth Society, Igor Kochan, said that basically immigrants from the former Soviet Union were enrolled.According to the German police, a group of Russian bikers from the Night Wolves club crossed into Germany from Austria. The press secretary of the Police Department of Upper Bavaria said "about ten people" entered the city of Bad Reichenhall, which is on the German-Austrian border, RIA Novosti reports.

On April 25, bikers from Night Wolves club started their Moscow-Berlin motorcycle marathon dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in World War II. The planned route will pass through Minsk, Brest, Wroclaw, Brno, Bratislava, Vienna, Munich and Prague. However, the bikers were denied entry to Poland.

 

Geneva is hosting a festival of films about the Great Patriotic War dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. "The Cranes Are Flying" (1957), "Destiny of a Man" (1959), "They Fought for Their Country" (1975), the famous documentary "Ordinary Fascism" and "White Tiger" (2012), "The Brest Fortress "(2010), "Stalingrad" (2013) and "In the Fog" (2012) will be shown until May 8 in the Palace of Nations.

 

The film festival is held on the initiative of Russia and Belarus. The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Alexey Borodavkin, his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Khvostov, and the Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Michael Moller, will attend the opening ceremony.

 

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a visit to Moscow on May 8-10, attending the May 9 Victory Day Parade in the Russian capital at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced in a statement today. Xi Jinping also plans to visit Belarus and Kazakhstan in May, at the request of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

 

More than 25 state leaders as well as the UN Secretary General and UNESCO’s Director General have confirmed their plans to travel to Moscow.
