The idea of Ukraine joining NATO resembles a revanchism of the forces which supported Nazi Germany, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, wrote in an article 'Great Victory in the Great War', which the Krasnaya Zvezda daily published today.
"The reality demonstrates the short memories of the political elites in some countries, which used to be parts of the Soviet Union," he said. "Most openly and cynically, fascism is given new birth in the Baltic States and in Ukraine. They announce as heroes the criminals, whose hands are red with the blood of their compatriots."
He also wrote about the attempts to distort the historical truth about the past war. "The objective of this lie is clear: to impede the force and moral authority of modern Russia, to deprive it of the status of a victor, which will be followed by respective international legal consequences," the secretary stressed.
"We are calling on, first of all, European countries to condemn all attempts to rehabilitate fascism, to distort history and to outlaw all forms of national, racial and other discrimination, which is unacceptable in the Europe of the third millennium," Patrushev wrote.
The memory of the war offers practical lessons in observing our national interests and the national security of this country. "We must remember: wars do not begin all of a sudden. Evil is growing if it prevails, if people try to ignore it. Only together can we respond to modern threats. Only on the basis of good neighborliness can we settle the problems of global security so that ideals of justice and kindness triumph in the world and so that future generations have free and happy lives," he concluded.
