War veterans condemn glorification of Nazi collaborators

Vestnik Kavkaza has received a letter from veterans of the Great Patriotic War, in which they expressed their indignation at attempts to glorify Nazi collaborators.

The chairman of the Joint Council of partisans and underground fighters of the Moscow War Veterans Committee, Roald Romanov, a veteran of the Northern Fleet, Captain of the First Rank, Ahat Muhamedov, and a teacher of Moscow State University, Igor Tikhonov, affixed their signatures to this letter.

"Dear editorial board!

I would like to draw your attention to an alarming trend, gaining momentum in some former Soviet republics.

It seemed that World War II has created an immunity against political extremism in Europe and in the Post-Soviet Space. Yesterday, however, Ukraine's ambassador to Germany began his visit to Munich by visiting the grave of Stepan Bandera. The glorification of Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevych and the organizations which they lead is no secret any more. The media on a daily basis distributes ever newer facts about how the Ukrainian authorities are campaigning to glorify the Nazi collaborators and the revision of the world history, but I see almost nothing about the policy which is conducted in this regard by the authorities of Russia's ally, Armenia.I draw your attention to the fact that Garegin Nzhdeh and General Dro became national heroes in a friendly state. After the war begun, Nzhdeh cooperated with the German authorities in the hope of capturing the Transcaucasian Wehrmacht. Today in Armenia commemorative coins are minted, films and documentaries are shot, and one of the squares in Yerevan is named in his honor. The authorities refers to his statements, that is, the ideological heritage of Nzhdeh is not only a lot of marginals, but a political ideology of the Armenian elite.70 years ago, when Russian, Ukrainians, Armenians and representatives of all nationalities of the Soviet Union walked together to the Great Victory, this was unimaginable.I think today it's your business to find out who is bringing the younger generation up in the spirit of this 'patriotism', and why.
