The West should change its attitude towards the events that are happening in the world and evaluate them, sticking to the rules of international law, rather than the law of the fist. Vladimir Putin made this statement following the results of a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In addition, the President spoke on the subject of creating a global system of security on a non-bloc basis.
"We must have common evaluation criteria and reaction to world events which are common and consist of common rules," TASS cites him.
"In the end, we need to establish not a law of the strong fist, or a law of the fist in international affairs, but standards of international law which are uniformly understood, applied and protected by the whole international community," the Russian President said.
Putin gave the example of the events in Yemen to illustrate his point of view:
"What happened in Yemen? And what can we observe there now? It is a coup. The president gave up power. Nowadays other countries intend to return him (Russia has good relations with Yemen)," Putin reminded.
"And everybody call it a coup d'état ... But when the same situation took place in Ukraine we have heard a lot of ‘‘good words’’ about former President Yanukovych. We also noted support for those who committed the coup," Putin said.
"So if we have different standards and approaches to the same situations, we will never come to agreement," the President concluded.
