President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili at a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, said that the country appreciates the European Commission's report on Georgia's transition to a visa-free regime with the EU and will do everything possible in order to achieve positive results in this direction in the near future.
"Our government, the parliament and society is doing much in this direction. As I said, we have received a very positive report, which we welcome ... We see this report as very interesting as a working agenda for our political development. We think that in this report we will achieve positive results after the intensive involvement of the details in this direction," RIA Novosti cited Margvelashvili.
He noted that Georgia believes that "the loaded European-oriented agenda, which society, the government and parliament has, will achieve its goal in the near future."
According to the commission, Ukraine and Georgia have made significant progress towards the abolition of visas, but much still remains to be done. The EC also said the European Union will not grant visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine and Georgia at a summit in Riga on May 21-22.
Tbilisi hopes that there will be a decision on a visa-free regime between Georgia and the European Union at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga. The Georgian delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
