Margvelashvili supports anti-Russian sanctions

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili believes that the sanctions against Russia are necessary as a demonstration of the unacceptability of the political actions of the Russian Federation in relation to neighboring countries.

"When we talk about sanctions and their negative consequences, including Georgia, let us remember the reason why the sanctions were imposed. The main purpose of the sanctions is to stop the war on the territory of Ukraine, to demonstrate the unacceptability of the occupation of Crimea. Therefore, sanctions should be preserved, and a political message to Russia about the unacceptability of this type of policy should be strengthened," RIA Novosti cited Margvelashvili as saying.

The representatives of the new Georgian government, which came to power on October 1, 2012, said that the main priorities of Georgian foreign policy are membership of the EU and NATO, as well as the normalization of relations with Russia.
