Speaking in a video address to commemorate the anniversary of the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said that the United States cannot protect anyone in Syria, Iraq or Lebanon from the radical Islamic State group.
"I call to end the silence and confront the threat. The US will never be able to protect anyone, and their silence over the threat would not ensure safety," TASS cited him as saying.
According to Nasrallah, IS "does not simply represent a sectarian conflict". "It is wrong to say this is a Sunni-Shiite conflict. We are facing a threat that does not tolerate the existence of others. Some people in the region are still putting their heads in the sand and denying these groups exist, or are considering them as friends," he stressed.
"We are fighting alongside our Syrian brothers, alongside the army and the people and the popular resistance in Damascus and Aleppo and Deir Ezzor and Qusayr and Hasakeh and Idli. We are present today in many places and we will be present in all the places in Syria that this battle requires," he said.
Nasrallah said that they are facing a danger that is unparalleled in history, which is directed against the whole of humanity and if the regime and its allies win in Syria, they would represent a guarantee for all Lebanese. "If Islamic State and and al-Nusra win, who would guarantee your safety?" he asked.
Hezbollah's leader also denied reports that he has called for “general mobilization,” noting that “it is too early for that.” However, he said that “if Hezbollah's leadership takes the decision to be present in the battlefields, you will witness the presence of tens of thousands of our fighters.”
