Naryshkin says sanctions will not force Russia to abandon Crimea

The idea that Russia will abandon Crimea and Sevastopol is absolutely ruled out and sanctions pressure against Moscow will not produce the expected effect, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said.

At the same time, according to him, amid the sanctions, many foreigners have been forced to "leave Russia because cooperation is curtailing, businesses are being closed down, and jobs for expats are being axed, which are the effects of "policies by the countries that have joined the sanctions."

"As a matter of fact, under pressure from the United States the EU has shot itself in the foot," Naryshkin said.

"Foreign partners may stubbornly push ahead, but they’ve got to realize that they will not attain their proclaimed aim," State Duma speaker stressed.

"They are saying the sanctions will be cancelled if Russia abandons Crimea and Sevastopol, betrays those who have believed us," he said, adding that it is "absolutely ruled out."
"We shall not leave the chosen path and pressure on us will be useless," TASS cited Naryshkin as saying.
