Peskov: narrow formats like G7 or G8 losing their effectiveness

Narrow international formats like the G7 are becoming ineffective, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We have said it many times, that in present world realities narrow formats like the G7 or G8 are gradually losing their effectiveness as sites for discussing global problems and vital challenges," TASS cited him as saying. 

"A much more effective discussion takes place in other formats on which we are focusing our work and attention," Peskov said, giving the G20 and regional formats like BRICS and the SCO as examples. ‘We and our partners are actively preparing for the summits of these two organizations (the BRICS and the SCO) in Ufa,’’ the Kremlin spokesman said, adding that "Russia actively participates in other multilateral formats."
