Yemeni president says Iran has more influence on situation in Yemen than al-Qaeda

Iran's influence on the situation in Yemen is more dangerous than the terrorist group al-Qaeda, Yemeni president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi said in an interview to al-Arabia.

"Iran has been against the initiative of the GCC (Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf)," he said. According to the Yemeni president, "Tehran conducts systematic work on the destabilization of Yemen, which is more dangerous than the actions of al-Qaeda."

Hadi said that delegations representing the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh have visited Iran "to coordinate the actions of the Iranians and their followers in Yemen." However, he added the current head of Yemen became an adviser on political issues for the leaders of the Shiite Houthi rebels.

"Saleh has agreed with the Houthis on 10 items, according to one of which Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh (son of the ex-president) will be the political leader, and Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi will be the spiritual leader," Hadi said.

In addition, the Yemeni president confirmed that the meeting in Geneva on June 14 will focus on the implementation of UN Resolution № 2216. This document introduces a ban on the supply of arms from the Ansar Allah movement to the Houthis and condemns their "unilateral action," TASS reminded.
