Voronezh held the 3rd meeting of the Club of Young Eurasian Historians on June 5-6.
Young historians, political scientists and journalists from Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan took part in discussions, lectures, professional training and thematic round tables during the two-day meeting.
The club meeting opened with a discussion panel titled 'Space exploration - the power and spirit of the age'. Famous Russian writer and journalist Vladimir Gubarev shared with the audience his memories of the formation and development of the Soviet space project, and his personal impressions from communications with Yuri Gagarin, Mstislav Keldysh, Andrei Sakharov, Sergei Korolev.
The first day of the Club was continued with a round-table discussion titled 'Historical science and historical education in the CIS countries: basic trends and priorities', which was held with the active participation of the Voronezh public organization 'Our History'.
The participants in the round-table discussed problems and prospects of the development of historical science in the CIS and Europe. They also discussed the role of history in the formation of the national ideology and identity of the peoples of the Commonwealth, and tools to counter attempts to falsify historical facts and politicization.
The problem of distorting and mythologizing the events of the Great Patriotic War in the historiography of Eastern European countries was discussed during a panel discussion conducted by the chief editor of Rodina magazine, associate professor in the History Faculty at Moscow State University, Yuri Borisenko.
The lecture-discussion held by the special representative of the President of Russia for International Cultural Cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoy, provoked lively interest from the listeners.
Honorable guests of the Club's meeting Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the CIS Executive Secretary, Sergei Ivanov, the Director of the First Department of the CIS Countries, Andrey Pirogov, and IFESCCO executive director Anatoly Iksanov also took part in the discussion.
The final event of the meeting of the Club was an interactive panel of historians held in the format of the game 'What? Where? When?'
The next meeting of the Club of Young Eurasian Historians will be held in September 2015 in Astana.
The project is implemented by the Political Science Center North-South, with support from the interstate fund of humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member states. The first two events were held in Yerevan and Baku.
