Georgia introduces visa-free regime with Iran

The agreement on visa-waiver travel between Georgia and Iran will be
signed in Tbilisi during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister
Manouchehr Mottaki to Tbilisi, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Nino Kalandadze, announced on Monday, Iran News reports.

She said that Mottaki will arrive in Georgia on the 3rd of November on
a two-day official visit. "During the visit, Manouchehr Mottaki and
the head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Grigol Vashadze, will sign
an agreement introducing a visa-free regime between the two
countries," Kalandadze said.

According to her, “the visa-free regime with Iran will be introduced
based on the number of Iranian tourists to Georgia, and an increase in
interest to expand trade with Iran."

The deputy minister stressed that “the deepening of relations between
Georgia and Iran will not affect the relations between Georgia and the
USA.” According to her, “the US is Georgia's strategic partner and the
interests of Georgia’s strategic partners, and especially of the the
United States, will be considered in the cooperation between Georgian
and a third state.”

Georgia and Iran established diplomatic relations in 1992.
