Russia demands diplomats be permitted to meet ‘spies’ in Georgia

Moscow demands Georgia permit diplomats see the suspected spies and
check whether any of them are Russian, RIA Novosti reports, citing the
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.

Last week the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 15
people were detained suspected of cooperating with the Russian special
services. Two of them were released. The Georgian ministry informed
that four of them are Russian citizens – Armen Gevorkyan, Ruben
Shikoyan, Petre Devrishadze and Yuri Skrylnikov.

Sergey Lavrov had earlier called the incident a propagandist trick and
a provocation. The head of the State Duma committee for international
affairs, Constantine Kosachov, reminded the Georgian authorities that
Russia does not leave its citizens in trouble.
