The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security
Policy, Catherine Ashton, has agreed with one of the two dates
proposed by Iran for multilateral talks, Trend reports, citing Press
TV.
According to the information, the ‘P5+1’ group (the five permanent
members of the UN Security Council – UK, China, France, Russia and the
USA plus Germany), represented by Catherine Ashton at the talks with
Iran, will have a meeting on December 5 in Geneva, Switzerland. The
New York Times said that Ashton does not want negotiations to be held
in Turkey.
The date and place of the negotiations were proposed in a letter on
November 9, sent by the Secretary of the High Council for National
Security of Iran, Said Jalili.
Catherine Ashton proposed to Iran to have talks in mid-November in
Vienna. The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuchehr Mottaki,
urged the EU to clarify the terms of the negotiations. The EU put
forward a proposition on October 16 to hold talks on November 15-18.
