Seoul has been hosting the fifth summit of the G20 on Thursday and
Friday. The participants at the summit discussed ways of healing the
world economy and ridding it in the future of financial turmoil.
The participants of the G20 summit warned each other against excessive
optimism - the crisis is not yet fully defeated, in particular the
eurozone countries are faced with a new round of debt problems, RIA
Novosti reports. The countries are ready to fight the difficulties
together, as well as avoiding excessive exchange rate fluctuations and
artificial devaluation of the currency.
The document adopted at the summit, the Seoul Consensus, specifies
measures to ensure stable and steady growth of the world economy, as
well as the direction to further financial regulation. Leaders of the
"twenty" are hoping that the next summit in 2011 will be held in a
post-crisis atmosphere.
During the G20 summit held in Seoul, Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan met with US President Barack Obama. TRT reports
that the two sides discussed issues relating to the establishment of
missile defense systems.
According to the Turkish Prime Minister, he imparted to the head of
the American administration the "sensitivity" of Ankara on the issue
of missile defense.
"When placed in Turkey, it (the system) should cover it completely,
and not a separate part of the country," the prime minister said,
adding that Ankara is also interested in a number of technical issues,
including who will manage the elements of the missile defense system
when it is placed on Turkish territory. "I saw that they (the US)
regard these demands positively," Erdogan said.
G20 summit participants also identified a set of long-term measures to
help developing countries. This is stated in the Seoul Consensus,
approved at the summit, which represent a development and long-term
action plan for overall growth, RBC reports.
