Russia is ready to develop cooperation with Armenia, including support
of its economy, Russian Premier Minister Vladimir Putin said at a
meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, RIA Novosti reports.
The premier said that this year Armenia had difficulties in
agriculture due to weather conditions, Russia fulfilled Armenian
request to provide one thousand tons of wheat seeds in September.
Putin also said that, despite the recession in 2009, Russian
investments increased by $500 million and reached $2.8 billion.
Moreover, in 2009 Russia provided a state loan worth $500 million to Armenia.
Putin noted that major Russian companies are actively working in
Armenia and expressed gratefulness to the authorities of the country
for providing conditions for such business.
Sargsyan noted that the trade turnover between the two countries this
year increased by 12%, compared with the previous year.
Joint projects are a demonstration of the long-term economic ties.
This includes construction of the new block for the nuclear power
plant of Metsamor (Armavir Region of Armenia), modernization of the
rail roads, the president said.
