Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia settle issues of common economic space

The three member-states of the heads of government of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia have settled all the issues concerning the creation of a common economic space, Gazeta.ru reports.

All the necessary agreements are to be signed by the heads of the member-states of the Union during their meeting on December 9th-10th.

Issues such as rail communication, energy exchange and interaction of major companies were discussed. The question of a unified currency introduction, on the other hand, wasn’t brought up at all.

Customs examination procedures within the framework of the Union are to be lifted from July 1st 2011.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) wrapped up a meeting in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on Friday November 19th, covering over 20 topics in the economic, security and humanitarian fields.

The meeting adopted the guidelines of forming a free trade zone in post-Soviet space, protection of intellectual property rights, development of healthcare and other joint programs, demonstrating that the 11 CIS countries are drawing closer together.
