Iran expands cooperation against drug-trafficking with Afghanistan and Pakistan

Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan started a two-day trilateral meeting on
Wednesday to expand cooperation against drug-trafficking, Trend
reports, citing Associated Press Pakistan.


The meeting is held in cooperation with the UNODC (United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime). The sides are discussing improvement of
the work of the first regional center to implement the work of the
police in simplifying information exchange and realizing operations
aimed at drug confiscation.


The UNODC said that the three countries talked about organizing more
joint operations to prevent drug-trafficking, expanding and
strengthening the border controls of the three countries and
increasing trans-border cooperation between police.


The three countries held six joint operations with approximately 2500
kg of drugs confiscated and 74 drug dealers arrested. Afghan Minister
for Drug Control Zarar Ahmad Mogbel Osmani, head of the headquarters
of Iranian Drug Control Service Mostafa Mohammad Najar and the
Pakistani Federal Minister for Drug Control Mohammad Zahir Arbab are
expected to publish a joint declaration on November 25.
