Members of the Georgian People’s Council have blocked traffic on
Rustavi Avenue at the Georgian parliament building. They will start a
protest due to their distrust of the Georgian authorities and to call
on President Mikhail Saakashvili resign, Trend reports.
600 people have already gathered. The traffic was blocked on the
initiative of the former head of the Georgian state security service,
Irakly Batiashvili.
According to law, protestors are allowed to block traffic if their
numbers do not fit onto the sidewalk. The police are not reacting to
the opposition. The chief of the Georgian Patrol Police, Giorgi
Gegechkori, said that the police will act according to the situation.
The police also allowed traffic to be blocked at Rose Square, where
members of the National Council are gathering. They plan to march
a kilometer on Rustavi and join the other protestors at the parliament.
