Azerbaijani CEC denies intervention of state structures in polling process

The Azerbaijani parliamentary elections were held in conditions of
social and political stability, according to the law, the head of the
Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Mazakhir Panakhov, said in his
speech at the Constitutional Court on Friday, Trend reports.


Panakhov said that reports of local and international organizations
contain no information on intervention of state structures in the
election process. There is no information about the intervention of
police in the process.


Nullification of the polling results in 46 polling stations did not
affect the election results.


Panakhov concluded his speech with a request to the Constitutional
Court to approve the election results. The CEC passed a protocol on
parliamentary elections on November 22, 2010. The final protocol was
signed by 17 out of 18 members of the Commission.


According to the CEC, the parliamentary elections saw 50.14% of the
electorate voting, or 2,480,205 people. There were 690 candidates. The
previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. The
parliamentary polling in Azerbaijan uses a majority system with 125
electoral districts.
