Chechnya has no places to gamble since all the gambling venues were
closed down several years ago, Chechen Deputy Minister of Interior
Affairs Roman Edilov said, RIA Novosti reports.
The deputy minister was commenting on the statement of the deputy head
of the Prosecutor General's Office of the NCFD (North Caucasus Federal
District) Alexey Vasilkov, who said that Chechen and Ingush police are
not fighting the gambling business as they profit from it.
Edilov said that Vasilkov's statement is not true. The closing is due
to high crime levels around such places. He also recalled that the
initiative to fight gambling in the republic came from Chechen leader
Ramzan Kadyrov.
