Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a meeting with
government officials that he has dismissed all the members of the
state maritime administration. The president said that the problems in
the maritime administration will be studied by the Georgian
prosecution, Trend reports.
The prime minister, economy minister and head of the single transport
administration were at the meeting.
According to Saakashvili, the reason for dismissal is that the
European Union had put Georgian maritime services on the blacklist
because Georgian sailors cannot work on EU vessels. Another reason is
problems in the administration, which have not been clarified by the
president.
Saakashvili said that the maritime sphere had been developing in the
1990s. Warning letters were received. One letter was received from the
ambassador to the EU on January 29, which had warned that the Georgian
sailors may appear in the blacklist. Another letter was received on
April 1.
European organizations do not recognize diplomas issued in Georgia.
Prime Minister Nika Gilauria was not informed about the problem by the
minister of economy.
