"Entry into the EU is still a priority for Turkey," president Abdullah Gül said during an interview with Reuters. According to him, this issue is politicized and artificial barriers impede this process.
"The Cyprus problem is evidence of this. We have started negotiations about entering the European Union and we are going to succeed," Gül claimed, adding that Turkey also plays an increasingly large role in post-Soviet territory. Turkey is going to invest in Kyrgyzstan and is ready to send its policemen to Kyrgyzstan to help local law-enforcement agencies in restoring order.
In concordance with the president's words, the Turkish Cooperation Council - a new agency, connecting Turkic peoples - will promote establishment of closer relations with Central Asia, where Turkish companies are the most active ones.
