Brussels hosted the 11th EU-Georgian council on December 7, chaired by
the Hungarian State Minister, the next President of EU Zholti Nemert,
the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood
Policy Stefan Fule and the Special EU Representative to the South
Caucasus Peter Semneby were at the meeting.
The Georgian delegation was headed by Salome Samadashvili,
extraordinary and authorized Georgian ambassador to Belgium and
Luxemburg, head of the Georgian mission to EU.
The EU-Georgian plenary session discussed bilateral and multilateral
cooperation within the framework of the 'Eastern Partnership', free
trade negotiations, liberalization of the visa regime, Georgian
security and the role of EU in this sphere, democratic reforms in
Georgia.
The EU emphasized support of the Georgian sovereignty and territorial
unity, the non-recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and support
of contacts between peoples and freedom of transport.
The European side praised the progress achieved by Georgia. All the
sides expressed support of the 'Eastern Partnership' cooperation.
