Israel has decided to pay compensation to the relatives of the Turkish
crew members who died during the attack on the Freedom Flotilla on May
31, 2010. The initiative will be realized in return for the help of
Ankara in the trial on the attack on the Israeli fleet, Reuters
reports.
The initiative was discussed between Israeli officials and their
Turkish counterparts in Geneva last weekend.
Reuters cites an official from Israel who said that Israel requested
Turkey return its ambassador and allow the appointment of a new
ambassador in Ankara.
Nine Turks died when Israel attacked the humanitarian convoy, causing
tensions between Turkey and Israel. The Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of carrying out a policy of 'state
terrorism' and demanded an official apology and compensation for the
families of the killed Turks.
