Israel has offered to pay compensation to relatives of the Turkish citizens who lost their lives during the storming of the boat "Mavi Marmara" on the 31st of May this year, on condition that Ankara removes the issue from the international agenda.
The offer was made at discussions between Israeli and Turkish representatives last weekend in Geneva, ANS reports. An anonymous Israeli diplomat told the agency that in exchange for resolving Israel's legal problems the families of the victims would be paid around $100,000 each, and that Israel hoped that the Turkish ambassador to Israel would be returned.
Israeli foreign minister Avidgor Lieberman is against apologising to Turkey or paying compensation to relatives of the nine Turkish and one Turkish/US citizens who died during the assault.
