The dismissal of the minister of foreign affairs will not change the
foreign policy of Tehran, the press-secretary of the ministry, Ramin
Mekhmanparast, said on December 14, Iran.ru reports.
The press-secretary said that the country's foreign policy is
determined by the high authorities of the country, the ministry is
just an executive structure. This means that the dismissal of
Manuchehr Mottaki and the appointment of Ali Akbar Salehi will mean no
changes.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed Manuchehr Mottaki, who was on a visit to
Senegal, yesterday. Iranian media say that the decision may be caused
by disagreements between Ahmadinejad and Mottaki.
Manuchehr Mottaki was appointed in August 2005, when Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad became Iranian president. After Ahmadinejad won the
presidential elections in 2009, Mottaki maintained his position.
