The UN Security Council has unanimously voted for three resolutions,
lifting sanctions introduced in the 1990s against Baghdad after Iraq's
attack on Kuwait, RIA Novosti reports.
The sanctions concern the program of oil in exchange for food,
prohibition of Baghdad activities in civil nuclear energy and the
international management of the Iraqi Development Fund.
The decision was initiated by the US side at a special Security
Council session, chaired by the US Vice-President Joe Biden. The USA
has chaired the Security Council since December, according to the
rotation mechanism. Co-authors of the resolutions are USA, Russia,
China and a group of European, Asian and African states.
