Opposition channels receive no license for digital broadcasting in Armenia

The opposition TV company 'A1+' and 'ALM' TV channel did not receive a
license for digital broadcasting in Armenia after the end of the bids
for digital frequencies, News Armenia reports.


A member of the commission Ara Tadevosyan gave 2 points to 'A1+', the
rest gave 0 points. 'A1+' and 'Armnews' were competing.


The head of the National Commission for TV and Radio Broadcasting of
Armenia Grigor Amalyan said that 'A1+' presented false documents, thus
receiving 0 points.


'ALM' is only 2 points behind 'Yerevan' channel, which received 40
points. 'ALM' lost the contest.

'Armenia TV', 'Second Public Channel', 'Multimedia Kentron TV',
'Usaber', 'Anser' (Russian state rebroadcasting TV channel) took part
in the contest for republican frequencies.


'ATV', 'ALM' holding, 'Yerevan', 'Dar 21', 'AR', 'Armnews', 'Melteks'
(A1+), 'Kaym', 'Paradise', 'First Channel', 'Shark' took part in the
contest for broadcasting in the capital. 9 out of 11 companies won.
'Tavush', 'Fortuna', 'Gegama Mediaholding' took part in the contest
for regional broadcasting.


Armenia plans to establish a state digital broadcasting network.
Yerevan will have 18 TV channels and 12 radio stations broadcasting in
digital format in Yerevan, and 9 and 4 correspondingly in regions.
Digital broadcasting is an EU condition.
