Air pistols in Russia classified as firearms

The Russian State Duma has passed a law on control over civil
firearms. The amendments were initiated by Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev, ITAR-TASS reports.


The law forbids carrying or transport of airguns and their use, except
in special rooms and fields.


Only civilians over the age of 18 will have the right to purchase
self-defense firearms. This will require a special license from police
stations. Tear gas, stun guns and airguns under 7.5J and 4.5mm will
require registration.


The new norms require citizens to to undergo training and studying of
rules on how to use the weapons. A license will only be issued after
passing an exam. Re-examination will be held once every five years, as
well as presentation of medical examination results, such as eyesight,
presence of mental illnesses, alcoholism and drug addiction.
