Russian President sends New Year greetings to his foreign colleagues

According to the Kremlin’s press service, Dmitry Medvedev has sent his best Christmas and New Year wishes in a telegram to Barack Obama and has voiced hope for continuation of the two countries’ intensive dialogue, the Voice of Russia reports.


The Russian leader points out that in the outgoing year Russia and the US have jointly achieved major results that ensured the positive development of Russian-American cooperation.

The two countries have specifically signed a “powerful START treaty that consolidates the foundation of global security.” “I hope that in the New Year we will continue our sequential movement along the path of pragmatic and long-term partnership between our nations,” the Russian leader points out in his telegram.

The outgoing year also saw further fence-mending between Moscow and Beijing. Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Hu Jintao have, for their part, repeatedly piled praise on what they called stable and long-term relations. During his recent visit to China, the Russian leader confirmed his country’s readiness to deepen bilateral collaboration with its immediate neighbor as well as sending his greetings on New Year's Day.

President Medvedev also send his greetings to Belarusian leader Lukashenko, urging him to promote further co-operation with Russia and hailed Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovich and wished him success in the coming year. Medvedev also send his personal regards to the President of Abkhazia. Azerbaijan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy are among the countries whose leaders received personal New Year greetings and best wishes from Dmitry Medvedev, who expressed his desire to continue constructive dialogue with these states.
