New law gives greater powers to Turkey's top court

Amendment laws being drafted for the Turkish Constitutional Court would allow it to annul decisions made by the Council of State and the Supreme Court of Appeal, Hurriyet reports.

Under the amedment laws, the court would also no longer examine cases in terms of content.

Council of State President Mustafa Birden reacted to the proposal by saying no such thing exists in Europe, and that the change would bring terrible results.
