The Federation Council proposes legally banning use of the words 'shahid' and 'djamaat' in any news item about terrorism, reports Interfax, citing deputy head of the Federation Council's commission for foreign affairs, Zaid Shapsadi.
"In calling a suicide bomber "shahid" the media undeservingly overvalues them. A Shahid is a warrior who sacrifices his life for the security of his motherland and family. He is an icon of courage. Shahids have nothing in common with terrorists, who blow themselves up and kill innocent people," - he said.
Shabsadi also added that in Arabic "djamaat" means "community or group of people", and applying this word to the terrorist underground in the North Caucasus is incorrect.
Thus, the Senator noted, "we have to ban the use of these words in reference to terrorists".
