International Women's Day (or International Day for Women's Rights or UN International Peace Day) is celebrated on the 8th of March.

In 1908 on the last Sunday of February thousands of women took to the streets of New York City, demanding better working conditions and voting rights. A year later, Women's Day was celebrated in New York City again. In 1910 there were demonstrations all over the country. A communist activist, Klara Tsetkin, suggested choosing one day to celebrate Women's Day. It was the 8th of March.In Russia the first Women's Day was celebrated in 1913. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union some republics continue to celebrate this holiday: in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgizstan, Latvia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.In Tajikistan the 8th of March has been called Mother’s Day since 2009.
In Turkmenistan this holiday wasn’t celebrated till 2008, when the president reinstated International Women's Day on the list of holidays of the country.Georgia celebrates the 8th of March along with Mother’s Day on the 3rd of March.Estonia and Lithuania do not celebrate International Women's Day anymore.
