Azerbaijan has started Fighting Human-trafficking Week, Trend reports.
The Baku office of the OSCE, the Department for Human-Trafficking Control of the Interior Ministry, the International Migration Organization and the International Labor Organization took part in the event.
They noted that an international conference on trafficking, organized by the OSCE office in Baku, with the participation of non-governmental organizations and state structures, will be held in late May.
Imran Nadzhafov, deputy head of the Department for Human-Trafficking Control of the Interior Ministry, said that 70 cases of human-trafficking were registered in 2010. 39 people were recognized as criminals and 34 as victims of such crimes.
27 victims of human-trafficking were provided with asylum, 5 were given jobs, 21 were sent for training. 31 potential victims of trafficking were employed, 30 received compensation.
There were 13,699 calls to the hotline, 15 of them were made by victims of trafficking. 1,436 were related to employment abroad, 652 – to education abroad and 82 – to foreign marriages.
