Leader of the Imarat Kavkaza terrorist group Doku Umarov is in one of the Caucasian regions in Russia, Interfax reports.
DNA analysis of the militants killed at the Verkhny Alkun village on March 28 did not reveal Umarov's body. Special services said that the chances that Umarov had been killed in the operation were 75%.
A police source said that Umarov gave an interview to Svoboda radio in the Chechen language in early April. Life News said that Umarov was taken to a Turkish hospital.
There were reports about the terrorist leader appearing in Georgia. Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze denied the information, he said in a joint briefing with his Czech counterpart Karl Schwarzenberg on Friday.
The operation at Verkhny Alkun of Ingushetia’s Sunzhensky District was held on March 28. A heavy bomb was dropped. Doku Umarov, who took responsibility for the blast at Domodedovo airport, was expected to be among the dead terrorists.
