Georgian Orthodox Church adopts bill on religious organizations

The Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church has adopted a bill
representing a compromise on the contentious issue of granting the
status of legal entity by public law to all religious communities in
the country, patriarch Job announced today after the Synod’s meeting.

Last week the Georgian parliament approved amendments to the Civil
Code on conferring legal status to all religious groups which have a
similar status in the member countries of the Council of Europe. At
the same time, the amendments establish the right that the concordat
can be issued only with the Georgian Orthodox Church.
