Kyrgyzstan was struck by two earthquakes with a magnitude of 8 and 3.5
on the 12-point scale at the Batken Region on Wednesday night. The
earthquake center was 52 km east of Batken and 7km from the village of
Sovetskoye. Thousands are suffering power cuts in the Kadamzhaysky
District, RIA Novosti reports.
The Emergencies Ministry found damage in 34 socio-cultural facilities
and 504 houses, while 207 buildings were destroyed in the Batken
Region. 15 socio-cultural facilities and 100 houses were damaged in
the Nookat District of the Osh Region.
85 tents have been brought to Kadamzhay.
15 people requested medical support, two of them were hospitalized.
Kyrgyzstan had a similar earthquake at the village of Nura in October
2008. 75 people died and 150 were injured.
