Another electoral incident occurred in Tskhinvali when Albert Gabarayev, a supporter of candidate for president Jambolat Tedeyev, was beaten up by the state security services of South Ossetia, Georgia Online reports.
Gabarayev had left Tedeyev’s house and was heading for the city center, where he was stopped by local police. The law-enforcers demanded he explain his reasons for visiting the unregistered candidate Tedeyev, who is also chief coach of the Russian national wrestling team.
The police then tried to pull him out of the car and shot him in the leg and injured his eye.
The South Ossetian Central Electoral Commission refused to register Tedeyev as candidate for president on September 30. Protests started. Tedeyev was forced to leave the country.
Before that, Tedeyev was summoned to the court. His supporters complained about police pressurizing them. The conflict caused Russian citizens to be barred entrance to the republic.
South Ossetia will hold presidential polls on November 13. President Eduard Kokoity supports Emergencies Minister Anatoly Bibilov as president. Earlier media reports said Bibilov is a candidate supported by Russia. The head of the Kremlin Administration, Sergey Naryshkin, held talks with the minister in Moscow in early October.
