The capital of North Korea, Pyongyang, is holding the funeral of Kim Jong-Il. His body lies in a glass sarcophagus next to his father Kim Il-Sung at the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, RIA Novosti reports.
The central newspaper of North Korea, Nodon Sinmun, published an article on the revolutionary heritage of the 69-year old leader on December 17. Nuclear weapons are considered the main heritage, tested in 2006 and 2009.
Kim Jong-Un is the successor of Kim Jong-Il. The passing of power from father to son is aimed at preserving the regime based on nationalistic ideology and the traditions of Confucianism.
Russian experts headed by Vladislav Kozeltsev from the Moscow Center of Biomedical Technologies, the structure maintaining Lenin’s body, were invited to embalm the body of Kim Jong-Il.
The leader’s car, train carriage, clothes and table will be placed by his tomb.
A mass mourning process is planned at Kim Il-Sung Square in Pyongyang on Thursday. About 100,000 people will arrive. They will pledge an oath of loyalty to Kim Jon-Un, the Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
