Georgian female convicts protest against children being sent to homes

A group of convicted women in Tbilisi have started a strike today, demanding that their children not be taken to center for the homeless, Interfax reports.

Nana kakabadze, head of the NGO “Former political convicts for human rights”, said that Ia Khvichia, Izolda Kvelidze, Tamara Bartaya, Yelena Tushishvili and Seda Rsogomyan have children aged under 3. Their children have been taken to centers for the homeless.

This violates the children’s rights. The convicts hope to attract public and media attention to the problem.

Kakabadze noted that the strikers requested Georgian authorities and the president’s wife Sandre Rulofs, but no response has been forthcoming.
