Writer Eduard Bagirov gives himself up

Eduard Bagirov, a blogger and writer, was questioned by Russian investigators without detention on Tuesday, Sergey Minayev, his friend, told Gazeta.ru.

Bagirov wrote in his blog that he had learned from Kostunov’s Live Journal about being in the federal wanted list. He said that he had visited the police at Petrovka Str., 38. He was then taken to the prosecutor’s office of the Tverskoy District of Moscow. The blogger was then released, because article 61 of the Russian Constitution does not allow extradition.

Eduard Bagirov has been on the wanted list of the Byukan Sector of Kishinev since October 19, 2011 for organized crime and mass disorders.

He is suspected in organized crime in Kishinev in April 2009, when buildings of the Presidential Administration and parliament were attacked. The blogger started a hunger strike and spread messages with the help of Sergey Minayev, saying that he was being pressurized to give evidence on the chief political strategist of the Communist Party, Mark Tkachuk. The Russian police demanded his immediate release. Bagirov was put under home arrest. However, he escaped to Odessa in mid-October and then to Moscow. Observers said that his escape from home arrest was a major disappointment for Russian authorities.
